5G promises to deliver enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communication (mMTC), and ultra reliable low latency communication (URLLC). To support mMTC and URLLC, 5G needs to carry out computations closer to subscribers at the “edge” instead of the cloud. This turns 5G into an infrastructure for both communication and computing. Just like cloud computing, edge computing should also be virtualized. On the other hand, communication is also being virtualized with software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) which virtualize control plane and data plane, respectively. When applied to 5G, together they virtualize functions in access and core networks, and release them to run on any virtualized computing platform. Combining virtualization needs in edge computing and communication, 5G mobile edge computing (MEC) is virtualizing eNB (evolved node B), EPC (evolved packet core), and CO (central office) into VeNB, vEPC, and CORD (central office re-architected as a datacenter), respectively. They are not just communication devices anymore, but also serve as computing datacenters with many open source resources like OpenDaylight and OpenStack. This in turn increases the surface of possible attacks and the concerns on 5G security. After streamline the above evolution path, we then give an overview of research roadmap on key issues, including cloud/edge/fog capacity optimization, multi-tenant slicing, service chain routing, multi-RAT offloading, horizontal and vertical federation, and security vulnerabilities and countermeasures.
YING-DAR LIN is a Distinguished Professor of computer science at National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1993. He was a visiting scholar at Cisco Systems, San Jose, during 2007–2008, CEO at Telecom Technology Center, Taiwan, during 2010-2011, and Vice President of National Applied Research Labs (NARLabs), Taiwan, during 2017-2018. Since 2002, he has been the founder and director of Network Benchmarking Lab (NBL, www.nbl.org.tw), which reviews network products with real traffic and has been an approved test lab of the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) since July 2014. He also cofounded L7 Networks Inc. in 2002, later acquired by D-Link Corp, and O’Prueba Inc. in 2018. His research interests include network security, wireless communications, and network softwarization. His work on multi-hop cellular was the first along this line, and has been cited over 850 times and standardized into IEEE 802.11s, IEEE 802.15.5, IEEE 802.16j, and 3GPP LTE-Advanced. He is an IEEE Fellow (class of 2013), IEEE Distinguished Lecturer (2014–2017), ONF Research Associate, and received in 2017 Research Excellence Award and K. T. Li Breakthrough Award. He has served or is serving on the editorial boards of several IEEE journals and magazines, and is the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (COMST). He published a textbook, Computer Networks: An Open Source Approach (www.mhhe.com/lin), with Ren-Hung Hwang and Fred Baker (McGraw-Hill, 2011).

Professor Ing. Dr. Ondřej Krejcar
Since 2011, Ondřej Krejcar has been employed at Hradec Kralove University, Faculty of Informatics and Management, where he has also been working as Vice-Dean for Science and Research since 2016. In 2012-2016, he was the coordinator of Science and Research and Technology Scout Center for the Transfer of Biomedical Research. At the same time, since 2014, he has been the Head of the Center for Basic and Applied Research (since 2016, the Head of the Center) and the doctoral study program DSP Applied Informatics Supervisor, in which he has been a supervisor of six PhD students and under my leadership two dissertations and 15 diploma theses have been defended. He is a guarantor of the subject “Methodology of Scientific Work”, “Usability of User Interfaces” and “Highly Parallel and Distributed Computing Systems”. Between 2005 and 2011 he was employed at VSB Technical University of Ostrava, Department of Measurement and Control Engineering (now Department of Cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering) where he has held 5 diploma and 16 bachelor theses. Here he also took a part in the creative guidance of PhD students in real-time management and industrial informatics. During the years 2005 – 2011, he also gained practical experience in designing and designing industrial information systems and biomedical information systems, in their implementation, architecture design and software portability, as he worked full time on the Center for Applied Cybernetics II (National Excellence Project) ME CR). He was also a member of the working group on the 5th European Community Framework Program, TRANSCAT – Integrated Water Management of Transboundary Catchments.Over time, profiling has taken place towards Ubiquitous Computing and its aspects as Smart Devices and High Performance Computing. The new computing capabilities of supercomputers also led to the project of Ministry of Health of Czech Republic, dealing with image processing from camera endoscopy cameras and searching for artifacts of patological objects using automatic detection. The area of demanding computational simulations and processes has been further developed by participation in supercomputer center at IT4Innovations as part of a joint project with FNHK, where we obtained 1,269 million kernel hours of machine time for our simulations and predictions.His research interests include ubiquitous computing and high performance computing, technical cybernetics, biomedicine, image segmentation and recognition, videoprocessing, biometrics.In the professional publishing activity, he published over 35 articles in impact factor journals (Thomson JCR), over 100 chapters in Springer prestigious series (LNCS, LNAI, LNICST, IFIP, IFMBE), over 150 Thomson CPCI indexed series Publication papers in reviewed journals and proceedings. His h-index is 16 according to ISI WOK, where 747 citations is recorded on his work.
Since 2014, he has been Deputy Chairman of the Panel 7 (Processing Industry, Robotics and Electrical Engineering) of the Epsilon Program, Technological Agency of the Czech Republic. Since 2013, he is also a member of the Expert Thematic Group of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sportson the configurations of the Horizon 2020 Program Committee – Information and Communication Technologies.

The IEEE Conference on Wireless Sensors (ICWiSE) 2018 will be held in Langkawi Island, Malaysia on 21 – 22 November 2018. The conference provides an excellent opportunity to share and exchange technologies and applications in the area of wireless sensors for professionals, engineers, academics and industrial people worldwide. ICWiSE 2018 is sponsored by IEEE Computer Society Malaysia. ICWiSE entered its 5th year, the previous conferences were successfully organized in Kuching (ICWiSe 2013), Kuala Lumpur (ICWiSe 2014) and Malacca (2015), Langkawi (2016) and Miri (2017).ICWiSe 2018 covers, but not limited to the following:

- Wireless information networks

ICWiSe 2018 accepts both regular (completed) research papers and research-in-progress as well as case study papers. Submitted papers shall not be accepted or under review elsewhere.
