Next Generation IoT Applications and Challenges

Internet of Things (IoT) is a new paradigm that promises to connect anything and everything around us creating an information eco-system at unprecedented scale. IoT enables a new set of novel applications that promises to transform the physical world as we know it today with economic benefits projected to exceed the trillion-dollar mark. While the basic version of IoT is already making its way to homes and industries, this talk will focus on the next generation IoT and discuss cutting-edge research aiming to make IoTs secure, self-powered, and ubiquitous. Novel applications of artificial intelligence (AI) enabling disruptive innovations in IoT for healthcare monitoring, smart surveillance, and human-machine interactions will be reviewed.

Speaker Biography

Mahbub Hassan is a Full Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and held visiting professor appointments at universities in USA, France, Japan, and Taiwan. He was a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE and served as editor for high impact journals including IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorial, IEEE Networks, and IEEE Communications Magazine. He co-authored three books on Computer Networking, which have been used by many universities throughout the world. He has co-authored 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers and was awarded a US patent. He received PhD from Monash University, Australia, and MSc from University of Victoria, Canada, both in Computer Science.
